RDP-FIDO-GATE puts multi-factor authentication in front of Windows Remote Desktop without changing the RDP server itself. It has two parts: a gate service on the machine you connect to and a client on the machine you connect from. The gate keeps RDP port 3389 blocked in the Windows Firewall. When you click a session tile in the client and touch a registered FIDO2 / WebAuthn security key, the gate verifies the signature and opens the port for your single IP address for about 90 seconds, then closes it again and re-asserts the block every 30 seconds. A gate can instead accept a 6-digit one-time code from any authenticator app, for teams without hardware keys. Windows still asks for its own password after that, so the key is a factor in front of it, not a replacement. The client keeps sessions as tiles with saved credentials and starts the standard mstsc. Its SSH console opens Linux servers behind the same key, with saved passwords, saved commands and an optional AI assistant. FIDO Stream, a second connection mode, streams the desktop over UDP with hardware encoding and AES-256-GCM, for games, CAD and video. New in 1.28: DeskHand, remote help by code. The person you help downloads DeskHand.exe (nothing to install) or runs one command in a Linux terminal and tells you the code; you see and control their screen or work in their shell. Keys are agreed between the two programs, both show the same check number, clipboard, files and sound go both ways. No hosting is needed: install the gate on the target PC and the client on yours. Linux packages and an Android client in pre-beta are available on the website. Free: up to 10 saved sessions, an ad tile, free activation by e-mail. Pro: unlimited sessions, no ads, USD 49 one-time.
